2014 – Day 172

I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage.
You shall have no other gods before or besides Me.
Exodus 20:2-3

What is your greatest priority?

When asked the greatest of all the laws of Scripture Jesus answered “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:35 The first of the ten Commandments says “You shall have no other gods before me.”

Establishing, developing and maintaining personal relationship with God is the most important commitment we will ever make in life. There are many things that can demand control of our lives and seem more interesting than following God. When we give into them, they eliminate all possibility of establishing and maintaining honest relationship with God.

God loves and cares for us: Principle 2 says “I earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover.”

If I am serious about recovery and changing my life to living life according to God’s Word I need to make my most important priority: Establishing, developing and maintaining personal relationship with God.

PRAYER: Lord, today help me not be be teamed p with those who do not love You! Help me to seek after Your will for my life and to follow through on my part of my recovery walk so You can follow through on Your promises in my life. Show me how to keep my focus today and everyday on establishing, developing and maintaining a stronger relationship with You. AMEN

2014 – Day 152

2 Corinthians 3:5b Our competence comes from God.

Insisting we could control our hurts, habits and hang-ups only caused is problems. Without power outside of ourselves we are destined for failure. The earlier we admit powerlessness and unmanageability and a need to change the sooner we can begin the recovery process.

God is able and willing to help us change if we are willing to put our faith and trust in Him.

Prayer

Lord help me today to admit and accept that by myself I am powerless to manage my recovery. Let me put my faith and trust in You so I can start to walk the Road to Recovery with You.

2014- Day 150

Psalm 107:10-11 Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains, because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High.

When we reject God and His plan we live in spiritual darkness.

When we come to recovery and stop Denying our true position. we realise we need His help to overcome our hurts, hang-ups and habits.

Prayer

Lord God help me today to realise I need Your help in every area of my life. That it is in relationship with You I can overcome the denial of my current circumstances and move forward.

2014 – Day 142

Read Spiritual Inventory Part 1 (page 1640 CR Bible)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing
and perfect will.
 Romans 12:2

The most difficult thing to open is a closed mind. I have, as I am sure many others have read regularly the cliche’ ‘The mind is like a parachute – it works better when it is opened.’

In recovery we must learn to deal with reality, face up to the truth about ourselves, our circumstances and our need for God’s help to change. The Bible tells us in John 8:32 ‘The truth will set you free.’  Jesus is the perfect standard of what is right. He frees us from the consequences of sin, from self-deception and from deception from the devil. He shows us clearly the way to right living and eternal life with God.

However, the freedom He gives us is not to do what we want in or own selfish nature, but freedom to follow God.

When we live and apply the principles of recovery to our lives on a daily basis Jesus’ perfect truth frees us to be all that God is calling us to be.

Prayer:

Lord help me today to deal with my reality. To identify the character defects in my life I need to work on and to trust You to give me all I need and to guide me to change them according to your will for my life.

2014 – Day 139

Read Spiritual Inventory lesson (page 1482 CR Bible)

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander,
along with every form of malice.
 Ephesians 4:31

The next area we need to look at in our spiritual inventory is our ATTITUDE.

It is God’s grace that helps us conform to His will. As we obey Him we will learn to live without bitterness, anger and harsh words. God is in the business of healing.

When we do things His way His word becomes our guide and a solid foundation for our recovery and lives.

Positive attitudes allow God to work on or character. When He sees us putting in honest effort to change He can will help us to overcome overwhelming odds.

Prayer

God, help me today to conform Your Word and Your will. Guide me and help me get rid of bitterness, rage and anger and every form of malice that will stop me being the person You want me to be and doing what you want me to do. Amen

Learning is important to our relationship with God

“Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices.” Jeremiah 25:5

One way we can honor God is to accept His discipline and build upon the lessons we have learned from our past.

Learning requires and develops humility. To be under His discipline means to willingly and humbly come before Him to learn what He wants to teach us.

Learning involves:
Meditation on what God wants.
Self-control in the face of adversity.
Dependence on God to teach us loving life lessons.

Everyday God wants to teach us new lessons. And He wants us to do our homework.

Are you doing yours?
