As we prepare for the upcoming ‘Celebrate Recovery Australia Training and Networking Seminar’ I find myself again reading John Baker’s book ‘Your First Step to Celebrate Recovery’. Thinking particularly of the 7 essential ‘Keys to Celebrate Recovery’. I am drawn to page 21 of the book and John Baker finally writing a thirteen-page, single-spaced letter to Pastor Rick Warren on his God given vision of a Christ-centered recovery program. A program provided by the church to provide a safe place where families could find healing and restoration; where moms, dads, and children of all ages could find freedom from their hurts, hang-ups and habits.
When presented with the letter Rick Warren responded “It’s a great idea John, I would like you to do it.”
So began the ‘SENIOR PASTOR SUPPORT’ of Celebrate Recovery, and God blessed it.
2 Corinthians 9:13 says “Those you help will be glad not only because of your generous gifts to themselves and to others, but they will praise God for this proof that your deeds are as good as your doctrine.”
Demonstrating our faith through our actions shows others we are believers of the Word: Attendance at Celebrate Recovery, prayer, good deeds will not by themselves demonstrate this to others. Daily relationship with God in our lives changes us. Confidence that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will is all the evidence we need to support each other on this ‘Road to Recovery.’

I am the Lord your God, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before or besides Me.
What is your greatest priority?
When asked the greatest of all the laws of Scripture Jesus answered “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:35 The first of the ten Commandments says “You shall have no other gods before me.”
Establishing, developing and maintaining personal relationship with God is the most important commitment we will ever make in life. There are many things that can demand control of our lives and seem more interesting than following God. When we give into them, they eliminate all possibility of establishing and maintaining honest relationship with God.
God loves and cares for us: Principle 2 says “I earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover.”
If I am serious about recovery and changing my life to living life according to God’s Word I need to make my most important priority: Establishing, developing and maintaining personal relationship with God.
PRAYER: Lord, today help me not be be teamed p with those who do not love You! Help me to seek after Your will for my life and to follow through on my part of my recovery walk so You can follow through on Your promises in my life. Show me how to keep my focus today and everyday on establishing, developing and maintaining a stronger relationship with You. AMEN
2 Corinthians 3:5b Our competence comes from God.
Insisting we could control our hurts, habits and hang-ups only caused is problems. Without power outside of ourselves we are destined for failure. The earlier we admit powerlessness and unmanageability and a need to change the sooner we can begin the recovery process.
God is able and willing to help us change if we are willing to put our faith and trust in Him.
Lord help me today to admit and accept that by myself I am powerless to manage my recovery. Let me put my faith and trust in You so I can start to walk the Road to Recovery with You.
Psalm 107:10-11 Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains, because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High.
When we reject God and His plan we live in spiritual darkness.
When we come to recovery and stop Denying our true position. we realise we need His help to overcome our hurts, hang-ups and habits.
Lord God help me today to realise I need Your help in every area of my life. That it is in relationship with You I can overcome the denial of my current circumstances and move forward.
Anxiety causes us to waste energy running from the past and worrying about the future.
Instead of getting anxious about the past and things we can do nothing about we need to focus on what we can do to live today as God wants us to live.
Matthew 6:32 tells us that God knows what we need and if we put or faith in Him, and trust Him He will supply it: “These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs”
Philippians 4:6 tells us to pray about everything: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.”
Imagine never getting anxious about anything – seems like an impossibility, doesn’t it? But is we learn to STOP! PRAY! and put or faith in God we can have victory over or hurts, hang-ups and habits and focus on the things God is calling s to focus on.
Lord, today help me to Stop! Pray! and trust You so I know I don’t have to be anxious abot what has happened, is happening and will happn
